just sayin'...

yes, it has happened.
i knew it would.
and it's taken about as long as i thought it would.
a month.
the fact that it is mothers day has something to do with it,
  i'm sure!
 it will pass...
then come back.
and pass.
πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–miss my hometown, family and friends very muchπŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–
just one of the hazards of traveling...

we are in bonifay, florida right now.
we left louisiana yesterday, may 13.
the day prior to our departure was rather tense...
we had to evac our trailer due to a severe tornado warning,
then downgraded to severe thunderstorm.
neither one of us got any pictures of the intense sky,
it was like nothing i've ever seen.
the last thing we thought of
was taking a picture as we went to safe shelter.
it happened SO fast.
we were out of the trailer for about 45 minutes
until we knew it was safe to return,
 then sat in our trailer
during the thunderstorm
and a downpour like i've never seen!
that went on for about an hour.
then the skies cleared, sun came out
and it was like nothing happened.
life goes on...

this is from the day we arrived.
as we are driving through the city,
you come around the bend on the freeway
and this just rises up out of no where...hello.

the day we visited the city, we rode the ferry
across the mississippi river to get to the french quarter.
we are so glad that we did.
 the idea of driving there
and finding a parking space is a nightmare.
we walked everywhere once we got there,
and when we got tired toward the end of the day,
we rode the trolley to the ferry station.  perfect.
the house of blues
we would have loved to see a show,
but nothing going on while we were there.
i did hear they have an amazing church service on sunday,
but we left the area on saturday.
one nice thing about walking the city though,
is that jazz and blues are playing everywhere...
on the street corner, in the park square, bars and restaurants.
 it was pretty cool.
mardi gras beads still hanging on the railing!
guardian angel

cafe du monde
home of the delicious french donuts!
crescent city brewhouse
stopped to have a nice, cold beer.
i like the light, he likes the dark.

the big easy...
let the good times roll...
those words truly describe this city...

remember the alamo!

we had a wonderful day downtown san antonio.
the alamo was a history lesson...one i surely had forgotten from my elementary days!
the mission itself has been very well preserved, as have the barrack areas.
the grounds are beautiful,
with fountains and well manicured shrubs and flowers.
after the alamo visit, we crossed the street and entered the riverwalk area.
a maze of water, shops, high rise hotels and restaurants.  whew!
 one stop for everything!
we had a very nice lunch, then took the river cab ride.
it was a 35 minute round trip all around the area.

this was our spot at fort sam houston army base.  shelb was stationed here at ft. sam from nov. '90-july '91, during desert storm.  his medevac unit filled in for a unit that went to saudi.

 beautiful texas sunset

this is ernie and mona. they live in new braunfels, a beautiful area out of the city and in the country. ernie is shelb's step-dad's nephew...so they are cousins by marriage.  they left california after they retired, about 3 years ago. we had a very nice visit with them while we were in the area.

today is sunday, may 7th.  we left san antonio yesterday,  made a pit stop here in houston (nothing to report here, just caught up on laundry and did groceries.)
tomorrow we head to new orleans!
